Regional Barista Competition
Central Canadian Barista Competition
Tuesday/Wednesday July 5th & 6th
9am-6pm
St. Lawrence Market – North Building – 92 Front Street East
Coffee professionals, enthusiasts and novices alike are all invited to attend the Central Canadian Barista Competition & Coffee Expo. This event will be hosted at the historic St. Lawrence Market in downtown Toronto and will feature the region’s best baristas demonstrating the art of making the perfect espresso.
Each competitor will compete for both the regional barista championship title and one of three spots at the nationals in Vancouver this October. The two-day competition and expo will feature coffee and tea samples from local coffee roasters and distributors of coffee products, baked goods and equipment, as well as a coffee cupping demonstration, cup tasters’ challenge and a latte art throw-down.
Each competitor must prepare and serve 12 separate espresso beverages: 4 espressos, 4 cappuccinos, and 4 "signature" drinks of their own creation. Competitors have only fifteen minutes to prepare all twelve drinks and are judged by a distinguished panel of local food and coffee experts. The judges will assess various elements of the competitors performance, including station cleanliness, taste, beverage presentation, technical skills and total impression.
The eventual winner of the Canadian National Championship will represent Canada at the 2012 World Barista Championship in Vienna. The events are open to the public with free admission. A portion of the proceeds from the show, as well as collected donations, will be sent to Coffee Kids, a registered charity, helping families build a better life in coffee growing countries
